Guntons Building, Norwich University of the Arts
We are working with Norwich University of the Arts and Norwich City Council to re-imagine the historic 1914 Guntons Building on St George’s Street. The brief is to transform one of the University’s most significant cultural assets whilst also unlocking new connections for the wider city.
At the heart of the design is a bold intervention to ‘carve’ through the building to complete the missing link of NCC’s ‘River Wensum Strategy.’ At last, it would be possible to walk the entire length of the river through the centre of Norwich.
In collaboration with University’s own Immersive Visualisation and Simulation Lab (IVSL), we have been able to create a 360 immersive experience and invite various stakeholders into the lab to experience our new design full-size and in real time. This process has been incredibly useful and has offered many insights, which we will incorporate as we develop our proposals.
Through collaboration and careful design, the project hopes to revitalise a neglected edge of the river and make a positive contribution to the city. We look forward to developing these proposals further.
