Creative Arts Centre, Norfolk

Redhead Architects are delighted to have been chosen to develop concept proposals to re-imagine a new programme of community uses for the former South Norfolk Council building, which are currently sitting vacant.

This new hub has been conceived to offer new creative studio spaces, a library and learning hub, ‘nomad working’ and flexible working spaces, wellbeing programmes in conjunction with local and county healthcare and fitness team to compliment local facilities all of which while create opportunities to learn new skills, get involved and to participate in wider community projects.

Our approach was to work with the existing building, which has a wealth of original features including the retention of the original council chamber and expanding on the extensive roof terrace into an external community space.

Firstly we created a digital 3D model of the entire building and surroundings.  Then we used Virtual Reality to test our ideas with local stakeholders.  With a clear programme of spaces agreed, we moved onto to create new outside seating and landscaping proposals, a new lighting strategy, branding and signage.

This promises to be an incredibly exciting and important community project for the region.  We anxiously await further news on funding and next steps.
