Site plan of Old Catton Junior Football Club design proposal

Old Catton Junior Clubhouse, Norfolk

Redhead Architects are delighted to have been commissioned to design a new community hub and clubhouse for this well established and much loved local junior football club.

Working closely with the Parish Council and local stakeholders, we developed the design, step-by-step, though a series of meetings and consultation events. We used 3D modelling and Virtual Reality extensively to test each idea to ensure that this new facility met the complex and exacting brief.

This new facility will provide new changing facilities for players and referees, plus a medical room, all meeting the latest FA guidelines. Additional dedicated WCs open facing the pitch for safe guarding.

A new community hub will provide capacity for 200+ to host events and classes. This new venue will feature separate bar and kitchen areas and a hatch to serve snacks to spectators on match days. A storage wall will help to manage furniture and equipment change-overs. A ribbon of windows to the West elevation has been set back to help mitigate the risk of solar gain, whilst offering views through to the pitches beyond.

The design of the building has been conceived as a dark, durable box by night, which opens up by day via two large ‘gates’ to reveal a welcoming covered entrance porch and cafe serving hatch. The rear side of these gates will be clad in light wood to graphically indicate that the facility is open for business.

A new carpark is also proposed with controlled access for emergency vehicles and a clear delineation from pedestrian areas. New landscaping offers cycle and DDA parking together with an integrated option for EV charging.
