boat house plan for Norfolk Broads

Boat house, Norfolk

Redhead Architects are currently developing a new concept to promote sustainable tourism on the Norfolk Broads.

Everybody loves an adventure on the broads, even Bowie sang about them.

Rather than spending the week trapped on a bloated plastic boat, we would prefer to travel in smaller silent electric craft, sailing from from one floating hut to the next, offering a different experience every night.  You could arrive in Norwich by train, then set off down the Wensum to begin your adventure…

Floating huts can be moored on their own for true escapism or they can be linked together around different shaped pontoons for family gatherings or events.  Huts can be different sizes, depending the type of experience you wish to have.

Groups of huts can be relocated to make the most of the changing seasons.  A series of floating cafes, bars and places to rent paddle boards etc. could help to promote and support local businesses, whilst having the flexibility to be ‘moved on’ out of season as required.   We love the idea of towing the huts into Norwich to provide places to stay during the Norfolk and Norwich Festival, what an amazing spectacle that would be!

We’re keen to meet with local stakeholders, so if you share our vision, please do get in touch.
